Pre- K Class Teacher: Mrs. Vanessa Meshack
email: vmeshack@santaclaraacademy.org

The year has started out great, thanks to your help. All the children are growing and learning how to share and interact with the other students very well. As of right now, the students are learning how to use all of the learning centers which include the Listening center, Science center, Block center, Art center,

Writing center, Reading center, Computer center and the Home

Living center. In the middle of September is when I will start the

curriculum and will be sending homework home with your child

except on Fridays. I am excited and looking forward to a great

year with the students.

Pre-K Students are adjusting wonderfully to a new classroom routine.  We are as a busy as the squirrels in autumn as we begin to recognize, spell, and write our names daily.   We have been introduced to the letters D, E, and F, and we are learning the sounds those letters make.

We are learning lots of songs and finger plays, and one of our favorite songs is the “Days of the Week” sung to the tune of “The Adams Family”.  We count every day and we are focusing on the numbers from 1-4.  We read a big book called “Pretty Patterns” and we learned how to identify an AB pattern.  We also learned a triangle has three sides.  We will be on the lookout for patterns and shapes everywhere!

Finally, the fall season continues to be an exciting time for Pre-K as we watch and learn about how the animals prepare for winter and how the plants and trees begin to change as the weather changes.

Students of the Month are:  Danae Lopez and Matthew Fuller

November was an exciting month in Pre-Kindergarten.  We learned a Thanksgiving prayer that taught us to say thank you to God for all He’s blessed us with like the people who love us and care for us, and all his gifts to us.  Thank you to all the families who came to share in our Thanksgiving luncheon.  Pre-K and Kinder had a wonderful performance!

Our theme for November was Transportation.  We learned about many different types of vehicles and how they are useful to us. We learned that some vehicles are for fun and some are for work, and some vehicles carry things, and some carry people.  Our number focus was on the numbers five and six.  Our letter focus was on the letters C, D, and V.

In Pre-K we are learning more and more every day!  Please remember to ask us what we did in school that was fun each day!

Thank you Claudia Salinas (Ian’s mom) for our beautiful Christmas tree.

Students of the Month are Marc Anthony Herrera, Ariel Hernandez, and Isabelle Zamora

Here's What's Happening in Pre-K

January's theme was All About Amazing Animals.  Pre-K students learned that some animals are wild and some are tame.  The tame animals are our pets.   We also learned to be kind to animals.   We had so much fun reading the January issue of Scholastic Learn-Along Magazine.  We learned all about polar bear cubs and how they stay warm in cold weather as well as the kind of clothing we must wear to stay warm in winter weather.

All our classroom activities incorporated skills related to letters, numbers, shapes, and colors.   We talked about the letters S, K, and Z, and the sounds they make.

Finally, we are so excited about our upcoming field trip to the Majestic Theater the see the Winnie the Pooh puppet show!

Here's What's Happening in Pre-K

Our theme for February was All Around Town.  We talked about the places people live, shop, work, and places to go for health care.  Our favorite books were Tom and Pippo Go Shopping by Helen Oxenbury and Bunny Money by Rosemary Wells.  We also learned about dental health by reading our Scholastic Learn-Along Magazine.

All our classroom activities incorporated skills related to   letters, numbers, shapes, and colors.  Our focus letters for the month were O, Q, and X.

Finally, we had a great time at the Dallas Majestic Theater! Thank you to all the moms who came along to chaperone.

It’s Spring Time in Pre-K

March was an exciting month in Pre-k.  Our theme unit was All About the Farm.  We learned how to take care farm animals, and where the food in the grocery store comes from.  Our letter focus was N, R, and E, and our number of the month was “10”.

We all couldn’t wait for spring break and it seemed like all the boys and girls returned from their breaks taller and a lot more mature.  After the break we had a great time dying Easter eggs, and we celebrated Easter with an egg hunt and an egg relay.  It takes a lot of balance to race with an egg in a spoon!

Like the spring flowers we are truly blossoming in Pre-K!

                        Here's What's Happening in Pre-K

Where has the time gone?  We have been so busy in

Pre-K.  Mrs. Meshack and Mrs. Romo have taught us so much.  We have learned all our letters and sounds and our numbers to 20 and beyond.  Some of us are even beginning to read!  We are sooo ready for Kindergarten!

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us grow:  Our parents and extended family who get us to school each day; All the Moms who brought donuts and cupcakes and treat bags, and shared their time with us on field trips; Mr. and Mrs. Herrera who made sure we had a good breakfast and lunch; and the folks from Young Audiences especially Ms. Marsha who shared her music, books, and her friend Wolfie with us.

Finally, have a safe and fun filled summer!
